Casting and Measuring
Custom DAFOs
The goal of a typical DAFO is to correct and stabilize the patient’s foot to an improved position of function so that standing and walking skills can improve. For the DAFO to comfortably correct and maintain the improved foot alignment, it must fit the foot precisely in its new position of function. Creating a cast that accurately captures the shape and volume of your patient’s foot in its best position of function is critical.
This video illustrates the practicum casting for the correctable foot. (Please turn on your speakers.)
For more in-depth instruction about casting for custom DAFOs, please take our online course Casting for DAFOs.
Casting is not required for Fast Fit products.
Instead, our casting footplates may be used for sizing for Fast Fit products. You may also use our printable sizing jig to determine the proper size.
This video illustrates how to correctly determine size for our Fast Fit products by using either our Sizing Jig or the more effective alternative, our casting footplates. (No audio.)
There are two ways to send us your order:
1. Shipping via standard mail
Fill out your order form in its entirety and ship it along with the cast(s) to 1360 Sunset Avenue, Ferndale, WA 98248.
Yes, it’s good to include some room for padding material, but you don’t need this much! One of the easiest ways to shave your shipping costs is to use a smaller box. Of course, you can re-use our Cascade boxes.
2. Digital scanning
In lieu of shipping a cast to us, practitioners can now send and upload digital files, eliminating the inbound shipping time and cost. Learn more about how to save on inbound shipping by sending digital scans. Learn more about our digital scanning guidelines.
